Khon Kaen Sugar Power Plant Company Limited. Khon Kaen Sugar Power Plant Company Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Khon Kaen Sugar Industry Public Company Limited (KSL), received privileges as a small power producer (SPP) using renewable energy sources and obtained a concession as a power producer and distributor from the Department of Energy Business, Ministry of Energy, Royal Thai Government, with a capacity to produce 30 megawatt (MW) of electricity and 450,000 tons of steam per year. The company sells 20 MW to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT).The balance is sold to companies in the group and used within the power plant as well. The main energy source for the power plant will be bagasse, a by-product of the cane based sugar manufacturing process.


According to the UNFCCC CDM Executive Board Meeting has approved the registration of Khon Kaen Sugar Power Plant Project as a Clean Development Mechanism Project (CDM Project – Carbon Credit). This Project is to assist Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emission Reduction and to promote sustainable development, which each year, the company will get the benefit from Carbon Credit Sale. The Company’s Project will be known as the first sugar factory group and the third project in Thailand which been registered.

EIA at Khon Kaen Sugar Power Plant


Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is an analysis of both the positive and negative impacts on the environment caused by a project. KKSPP conducted environmental impact assessment studies during conception, construction and completion of the project. The results were in full compliance with regulations and policies of the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Royal Thai Government. Regular six monthly EIA reviews will result in many benefits.
